Difference Between CM400 & CB400

Q:  What is the difference between a CM400 and a CB400?

A:  Very little.  Most of the mechanical parts & electrical system components are fully interchangable between the two product lines.

  • A slight difference in the shape of the rear section of the frame. The tail of the CB400 frame has slightly straighter lines than the CM400. (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=57207.0)
  • The CM400 is more of a "cruiser" style, while the styling of the CB400 is more "sporty" in the following areas:
    • Tank & side covers
    • Seat
    • Rear fender
    • Instrument cluster
  • The CM400 series has a 16" rear wheel while the CB400 models have an 18" rear wheel
  • Some CB4xx models have 6 speed transmissions
  • Some CB4xx models have an oil cooler
  • The CM400 C, E, & T series dropped the kickstarter after 1978 while the kickstarter can be found on all CB400
  • The CM400 has megaphone style mufflers while the CB400 is slightly more of a "Dunstall" style
